Networks and Connectivity

1. Wireless Networks (eduroam)
The Iscte wireless network covers practically the entire campus and exclusively uses the SSID eduroam.
Configuration
On recent devices, it is enough to:
- Connect to the SSID eduroam.
- Enter the Iscte username (e.g., xxnes@iscte‑iul.pt) and the respective password.

2. Wired Networks (Ethernet)
ISCTE’s wired network provides high stability and performance connectivity through the campus’s physical data infrastructure.
Usage rules
- The connection is intended for terminal equipment (PCs, printers, etc.).
- Connecting network equipment (routers, switches, repeaters) is not allowed.
This access is ideal for:
- Fixed workstations,
- Laboratories,
- Equipment that requires higher performance or stability.

3. VPN
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) creates a secure and encrypted connection between the user’s computer and Iscte’s internal network, allowing remote access to exclusive services.
- Secure remote access as if you were on campus;
- Access to scientific databases contracted by Iscte;
- Access to remote workstations (staff only);
- Protection of traffic on public or insecure networks.

4. VoIP
The VoIP service (Voice over IP) is available exclusively to Iscte employees.
It is a technology that allows making telephone calls over the Internet instead of a traditional telephone line.
