FAQ
Which credentials should I use to access the VPN?
Atualizado/Updated: 2026-05-12
Target Audience: Iscte Community
Answer/Solution:
You should use your institutional credentials from Iscte, that is, the username and password associated with your institutional account (e.g., xxnes and the corresponding password).
These credentials are the same ones you use to access Iscte’s digital services, such as institutional email, academic platforms, and other internal systems. The credentials allow secure authentication both on the Iscte campus and at other institutions participating in eduroam, in Portugal or abroad.
If the credentials are incorrect, expired, or inactive, access to eduroam will not be possible, and you will need to update them or contact Iscte IT support services.

Do I need a VPN when I am on campus?
Atualizado/Updated: 2026-05-12
Target Audience: Iscte Community
Answer/Solution:
No. When you are connected to ISCTE networks (via cable or institutional Wi‑Fi), you are already within the internal network, so a VPN is not necessary. The VPN should only be used when you are off campus.
Exceptionally, access to some applications or services may require connecting to the VPN, even on campus.
