IBM SPSS Statistics

IBM SPSS Statistics is a powerful software suite used for data management, advanced analytics, and statistical analysis. 

1. How to get it for Windows?

 SIIC make IBM SPSS Statistics available by following these steps:

    1. Go to this link.
    2. Log in using your Iscte credentials (eg., xxnes@iscte-iul.pt and password).


    3. Open the folder for the version of IBM SPSS Statistics to be installed. As a rule, the latest version.


    4. Select the compressed folder “SPSS_30.0.0_Win.zip” and click on “Download”.

    5. The compressed folder labeled “SPSS_30.0.0.0_Win” will be downloaded.

2. How to get it for MacOSX?

SIIC make IBM SPSS Statistics available by following these steps:

    1. Go to this link.
    2. Log in using your Iscte credentials (eg., xxnes@iscte-iul.pt and password).


    3. Open the folder for the version of IBM SPSS Statistics to be installed. As a rule, the latest version.

    4. Select the compressed folder “SPSS_30.0.0_Mac_OS.zip” and click on “Download”.

    5. The compressed folder labeled “SPSS_30.0.0_Mac_OS” will be downloaded.

3. How to install on Windows?

    1. Select the compressed folder “SPSS_30.0.0_Win” and click “Extract all“. If you prefer another location, select “Browse…” and choose the desired location. Select “Extract“.

    2. The “SPSS_30.0.0.0_Win” folder will be generated.

    3. Open the folder “SPSS_30.0.0.0_Win” and then the file “ISSCAS30_0.0_MW_ML”.

    4. Click on “Next”.

    5. Under “License Agreement”, select “I accept the terms in the license agreement” and click “Next”.

    6. Under “Destination Folder”, click on “Next”.

    7. Click on “Install” to start the installation.

    8. Wait for the installation process to finish.

    9. Once the installation is complete, click on “Finish”.

4. How to install on MacOSX?

    1. Start the installation by double-clicking on “SPSSSC_30.0.0.0_Mac_OS.pkg”.

    2. Click on “Continue” to proceed with the installation.

    3. Click on “Continue”.

    4. Click on “Agree“.

    5. Click on “Install”.

    6. Authorize the execution of the installation by entering the user credentials of the administrator profile on the computer.
    7. Wait for the installation process to finish.

5. How can I get a license?

SIIC makes IBM SPSS Statistics licenses available through a service request in the Services Portal:

    1. Go to https://iajuda.iscte-iul.pt/.
    2. Authenticate using the SIIC credentials (e.g. xxnes@iscte-iul.pt and its password).
    3. Select the option “New Request“.
    4. Choose the category “Aplicações/SPSS e Amos” and then Create Request in “Requisição de Licença SPSS”.





    5. Fill in the questionnaire indicating the version you want (for example, IBM SPSS Statistics, version 30).
    6. Within 48 working hours the respective license will be sent.

6. How can I activate the license on Windows?

    1. Click on “Launch License Wizard” to run the application.

    2. Under “Product Authorization” select the first option “Authorized user license…” and then click “Next”.

    3. Enter the authorization code provided by SIIC in the “Enter Code” field (1) and click “Add” (2). Click on “Next” (3).

    4. Click on “Next” to continue the licensing process.

    5. Click “Finish” to complete the activation.

7. How can I activate the license on MacOSX?

    1. Click on “Launch License Wizard” to run the application.

    2. Under “Product Authorization” select the first option “Authorized user license…” and then click “Next”.

    3. Enter the authorization code provided by SIIC in the “Enter Code” field (1) and click “Add” (2). Click on “Next” (3).

    4. Click on “Next” to continue the licensing process.

    5. Click “Finish” to complete the activation.

    6. Click on “Restart”.

8. Known Issues

Issue: The installation completes successfully, but activation does not start.

Resolution: Run the application “IBM SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard” and repeat the process described in “How to activate SPSS“.

Issue: If you receive this type of error when activating your IBM SPSS Statistics license:

Authorization in progress … (***************)
Authorization failed.: Authorization Error
*** End Of Transaction.
One or more codes failed.
Click “Next” to license authorization via e-mail.

Resolution: Replace the “licenseactivator.jar” file located in the root folder of the software. All instructions on how to replace the file are in this FAQ: Error in activating license in Amos and SPSS

Problem: Error message when starting IBM SPSS Statistics: “Could not start the application because the side-by-side configuration is incorrect…“

Resolution:

        1. Open Windows Explorer.
        2. Find and access the folder where IBM SPSS Statistics is installed. 
        3. Open the VC9 folder.
        4. Run the existing .exe file as the version of IBM SPSS Statistics installed:

          win32 – vcredist_x86.exe
          win64 – vcredist_x64.exe

          Tip: the file must run in administrator mode, that is, select the right-click file and choose “Run as administrator“.

Issue: The program displays the error below:

Resolution: You need to download, extract and run the “Fix Pack 1_Mac” file.

After installing IBM SPSS Statistics and the Fix Pack, follow the instructions to apply the fix:

      1. Inside the Sonoma folder (macOS 14.0) > extract the folder > 29.0.1.1-IM-S29STATC-MAC- IF001.zip > locate the following file> libplatdep.dylib > back it up to a separate folder for your Desktop
      2. Close all Statistics 29 Desktop applications
      3. Go to the subdirectory (e.g. /Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/lib/”)

4. Right-click on “Show Package Contents”.

5. In the “Contents” folder, open the “lib” folder, paste the “libplatdep.dylib” file and click the “Replace” button.
